Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
