Al-Shams
The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
