The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
