The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
