The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
