The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
