The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
