The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
