The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
