The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
