The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
