The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
