The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
