The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
