The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
