The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
