The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
