The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
