The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
