The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
