The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
