The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
