The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
