The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
