The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
