The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
