The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
