The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day in splendour 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
