The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
