The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
