The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
