The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
