The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
