The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
