The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
