The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
