The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
