The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
