The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And accepts the best, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
