The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
