The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
