The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
