The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
