The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
