The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
