Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
