The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
