The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
