The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the finest, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
