The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
